Busy Period for Ballymoney Blaze |
 |
|
Its been a busy period for the Blaze club, with all three of the teams having games in recent weeks. So from the top down, the results have been as follows.
Blaze ‘A’ Men’s kicked off their season with a fantastic victory over UUJ, one of the country’s elite teams, however the wheels seem to have come off the wagon a little since then, with a 3-1 away defeat at the hands of last year’s promoted side, Civil Service followed by a 3-0 home defeat to last year’s league champions North Down Lizards. A game away to Aztecs on 7th December will complete the calendar year for the lads.
Meanwhile, on a positive note the club fielded a team in the NIVA league for the first time as... more |

Ballymoney 3-2 UUJ |

What a start to the season this turned out to be for Ballymoney! Following the non-appearance last year by the students, this was their first experience of the fortress Ballymoney like to call Dalriada, and after a result like this, its probably not an experience they will want to repeat for a long time!
Following a 3-1 victory over Civil Service to begin the season, Jordanstown, the only Ulster team to have a premier division team, will have been looking to follow up with another convincing performance to put themselves in a commanding position at the top of the table.
However, it was not to be for the Belfast side as Ballymoney took the game to their heavily fancied o... more |

After taking a set off the Aztecs last week, Ballymoney looked to cause an upset at the PEC against the strong student side.
They certainly looked set do this when they took the first set in rousing fashion with a 25-19 victory over their hosts thanks mainly to the omnipresent Crockett who shut out the students attack at the net. Also in inspirational form was evergreen player/coach Kevin Uprichard who, with much quick thinking won many points for the locals thanks to his experience in the game.
The second set looked to be going the same way, with Alan McKnight almost breaking his neck in what can only be described as “one for the cameras” to keep the ball in the ai... more |

After the comprehensive defeat of the Portadown Aztecs a couple of weeks ago, Ballymoney came into this game with high hopes of a good performance, although it was clear to see that the Aztecs were out to stamp their authority on the game and put themselves back into league contention after the surprise defeat of UUJ by the Lizards.
The game did not start well for the Ballymoney team who looked well off the pace, losing the opening set by an almost embarrassing margin, mainly due to an extreme lack of effort all over the court.
This was not the case in the second, as the local lads took the game to the visitors, forcing every point in a nail-biting set, and eventual... more |

Following last week’s Friendly success morale was high in the Ballymoney camp, and it certainly showed in this performance.
In what could be their most dominating display to date, the team upped their collect performance by several gears from what we have seen so far this season. This was in no small part due to the superb performance by Alan McKnight, now living up to the potential we have all long known he is capable of.
The performance of McKnight was made all the easier thanks to the much improved passing by Ballymoney all over the court, particularly from Walker, who was nursing a groin injury picked up in the warm up.
The game started with a decim... more |

Ballymoney Boys Back To Winning Ways |

On Wednesday night at Dalriada, Ballymoney Blaze put on a performance that showed just why they dominated every team they came up against in the second division last year. Unfortunately for the team though, it was only a friendly, and the result was inconsequential, none the less though the performance showed a lot of promise on the lead in to next week’s crunch fixture at home to Portadown Aztecs, the team set to take UUJ all the way in a battle for this year’s title.
The game started very very poorly from the hosts, at one stage in the opening set falling 11 points behind!! However, a spirited comeback saw the team take the students of UUC to a nail biting 25-23 finish.
