Beach Volleyball Joins Raft Race in Portrush
The inaugrual NIVA Exhibition Beach Volleyball Event saw 13 players draw a crowd of over 500 on Portrush Beach. First up was Ding and Tom v VAIs Johnny and Odhran in a 24 - 22 tight match taken by the away team. Next was Chloe and Julia v Zdenka and Marie (VAI) with a 21 - 14 win to the home side. The last match was a cracker with Graeme and Ross, both 19, losing out 21 - 19 to Olaf and Seb from Brazil.
This was followed by a fun 6 event and then a 'tag' match of NI v away players with any 2 on court. NI lost out in the 3rd set.
The weather was fantastic and the layout of the court with the music and DJ gave a professional feel. The event was heavily promoted with banners and radio announcements so come Sunday everyone was talking about it. Hopefully this can be built upon for next year in an even bigger event.
