NIVA has produced the above Child Protection Policy and all persons working with or in contact with children under the auspices of NIVA will be subject to this policy.

Coaches are expected to:

  • Maintain responsible association with NIVA through annual registration or licensing
  • Continue personal and professional growth, remaining current on new developments in the field through continuing education
  • Use their knowledge and professional expertise for the benefit of the people they serve
  • Always strive to be truthful and put players, colleagues or other professionals in a positive light
  • Respect the integrity, rights to confidentiality and protect the welfare of people they are working with
  • Avoid discrimination in all of its forms

All coaches who expect to work with children or vulnerable adults also need to be vetted.

Child Protection Vetting

The following process is to be followed for a new coach / official / volunteer to register with NIVB and be vetted with Access NI.

The new coach / official / volunteer completes the following steps:

  1. Access NI
    If the volunteer already has an Enhanced Access NI certificate the volunteer presents their original certificate to the NIVA designated signatory.

    If the volunteer need to be Access NI checked
    The volunteer completes parts B and C on the Access NI application form (CP-01) and forwards the necessary payment if the volunteer receives payment for their services

  2. Fill out the volunteer application form (CP-02)

  3. Fill out the DISCLOSURE OF CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS FOR THOSE WORKING IN NORTHERN IRELAND Form (CP-03)

  4. Confirming identification – The volunteer either presents themselves to the NIVA designated signatory with original identity documents as explained on page 2 of the Access NI application form (CP-01) or asks the club chairperson to complete the form (CP-06) after seeing the original identity documents and forwards the CP-06 form with a copy of the ID to the NIVA office.
