Aspiring Beach Brits in Alicante

Sheffield, England, 12 Apr 2007 - British Beach Volleyball athletes on the TASS programme headed out to Alicante this week for a week long training camp on the sands of Spain.

A range of summer events are due to kick start another exciting Beach Volleyball season and things are certainly hotting up for those involved with the GB programme.

The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme, or TASS, is the Government funded scheme helping athletes in further education combine their sport and education.

Whilst newly appointed Head Coach Matt Grinlaubs travels back from the USA camp to Australia to get packed and move to the UK, the camp in Alicante is being led by fellow Australian Angela Clarke, England’s Community Sport Coach Denise Austin and Morph Bowes.

Players on the camp in Spain are:

Jake Sheaf
Rob Flay
Tom Lord
Adam Phillips
Kerri Olding
Helen Brown
Leanna Herbert
Vicky Palmer
Rachel Turner
Barry McGuigan
Matt Pierce

The American camp saw players join Grinlaubs and Coach Jeff Alzina, who has been working with Lucy Boulton, Denise Johns, Jody Gooding and Steve Growtowski who have been training full time in LA perfecting their match skills ahead of events this summer.

Boulton and Johns and Gooding and Grotowski will all be heading to Shanghai on May 1st to compete on the FIVB World Series.
