GB Men Settle In

Holland , 3 Oct 2007 - The British men’s squad arrived in Holland last month, 26th September, and were greeted by their hosts from Club Martinus and Dutch National television.

After arriving they were welcomed at Martinus’s clubhouse with drinks and ‘haring’ a traditional raw fish delicacy. On the Friday afternoon they played their first ‘friendly’ against the students of the University of Amsterdam, losing the sets played but finding it useful training.

This Sunday, 7th October, there is a match in the Super Cup (Champions against Cup Winners) for the men and women which the squad will watch and after that there is a Volleyball Gala where the best Dutch players will be honoured. The team will get a chance to meet ‘Volleyball in Holland’ there and hopefully a good night ahead of their first match next week.

In their first match as Martinus the team will face reigning champions Piet Zommers/D on the 13th October.
