Aztecs Win in National League Relegation Battle
Published: 11 Apr 2012

Craigavon Aztecs Eagles took on Skea Spikers in what was their most important match of the season. Aztecs knew if they were to lose this match then they would be relegated from the NIVB National League.

Aztecs started the first set with serve and this proved to be influential with strong serving from Michelle Diffin, Jenna Gass, Amy McCall and Sorcha Maguire, which never allowed Skea to get their game going.  Aztecs asserted their dominance with setting from McCall, as she controlled the tempo of the Aztecs offence, and strong Middle Hitting from Rebecca Whitten. Aztecs ran out the first set 25 -13

At the start of the second set Aztecs lost Whitten early to an ankle injury, however they continued where they had left off. Hitting from Charlotte Wilson and Maguire continued to trouble the opposition. Although the star of the set has to go to Jenna Gass who served 16 points in a row as Aztecs ran out 25 -5 winners.

The Third set saw the introduction of the young Judith Edgar and she continued in the same vein as those before her. Aztecs raced into 17- 4 lead again with strong serving and hitting from Diffin and Gass.  However they took the foot off the gas and allowed their opponents back into the set but Aztecs always had too much in their locker and eventually ran out 25 -15 and 3 – 0 winners to improve their chances of remaining in the National League for next season.

Aztecs MVP - #7 Jenna Gass
