WN Ulster Coleraine vs Queens
Published: 17 Apr 2012

It was another windswept night on the north coast and this time it was a top of the table clash in the women's national league. With the League already wrapped up both teams were playing for pride. Ulster Coleraine had won the clubs previous 2 league encounters and Queens wanted to finish the season on a high so the match was tough to call.

The match started off evenly with both teams playing well, strong middle attacks from both teams showing something of what was to come. Even though Queens were the away team and their supporters were outnumbered 15 to 1 Queens seemed to be the louder. As the set went on Queens began to pull away and with Coleraine missing star libero Belledent Queens took the set 25-14. Coleraine stepped up in the 2nd set and showed a bit of why they had beaten Queens twice already this season. Decisive setting from Rankin and strong middle hitting from Wallmuth gave Coleraine the set 25-20.

Once again the match changed with Queens raising their game. Serving from Cunningham seemed impossible for the Coleraine Girls to pass giving Queens the lead. Then great setting for middle hitters Wiezowska and Dowey gave the 3rd set to Queens 25-16. This spurred the Belfast team on and there was no stopping them in the 4th, finishing the match with a 25-10 set win.

A big thankyou to Peter Lundy and Kerry Kirkpatrick for refereeing and Callum Currie and David Park for scoring.
